Description

About Mid Hudson Energy Transition

Mid-Hudson Energy Transition (MHET) is a nonprofit rooted in energy justice, equity, and community ownership. Our mission is to empower communities to own and share renewable energy, create healthier buildings, and join in community wealth building to strengthen the resilience of the Hudson Valley in the face of climate change.

Our Home Upgrade Grants (HUG) program provides no-cost energy efficiency and electrification upgrades—like insulation, heat pumps, and electric stoves—to low-income households in Kingston, NY. We pair climate solutions with care, making sure every participant feels informed, supported, and respected along the way.

About the role

MHET is hiring a full-time Project Coordinator to help move energy efficiency, health and safety, and renewable energy projects forward and ensure a positive, trusted experience for every participant. This is a people-first, field-forward role: you’ll attend audits and installations, call participants to guide them through the process, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with contractors and internal staff to keep projects on track.

This role requires excellent communication, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn about building decarbonization. You don’t need to be an expert yet (we’ll train you), but you must bring initiative, empathy, and a commitment to equity.

You’ll work alongside our Energy Efficiency Specialist and Program Managers to deliver high-quality, justice-centered upgrades in people’s homes.

What you'll do

Participant Engagement & Support

  • Build and maintain trust with participants through clear, compassionate, and consistent communication
  • Attend home energy audits, walkthroughs, and project installations
  • Call and follow up with participants to gather documents, assist in completing program applications, explain scopes of work, and answer questions
  • Conduct weekly or monthly post-install check-ins to gather feedback and ensure satisfaction
  • Identify concerns or barriers and escalate when needed for resolution
  • Engage and empower low-income homeowners by providing education and information about the project's benefits and processes

Project Coordination & Case Management

  • Maintain accurate project notes and participant status updates in HubSpot
  • Manage follow-up tasks and internal coordination using Asana
  • Coordinate multiple contractor quotes, review scopes of work, help prepare homes for install-readiness, and ensure participant understanding
  • Track and troubleshoot delays or missing pieces in the project timeline
  • Facilitate regular communication and collaboration between stakeholders to ensure project alignment and achieve collective goals

Contractor & Partner Engagement

  • Coordinate directly with contractors, auditors, and weatherization partners to move projects forward
  • Maintain and strengthen MHET’s contractor relationships; gather participant feedback on contractor experience
  • Support contractor recruitment and onboarding as program demand grows
  • Conduct outreach to multiple contractors to gather quotes for projects related to our low-interest loan program, HELP
  • Help ensure quality control through on-site presence and communication

Program Development & Learning

  • Participate in energy efficiency and building science trainings (e.g., BPI Building Analyst prep, internal workshops)
  • Support data collection for reporting and evaluation
  • Document participant experiences, challenges, and program improvements
  • Contribute to internal learning and help improve systems and processes
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with academic institutions, low-income homeowners, local building contractors, community organizations, and government agencies

Qualifications

Required:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills: you are patient, clear, and warm
  • Highly organized and proactive: able to track details and follow through without reminders
  • Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations
  • Comfortable with (or quick to learn) systems like HubSpot, Asana, Google Workspace
  • Able to travel for in-person audits and installations around the Hudson Valley
  • Deep alignment with MHET’s mission and approach

Preferred:

  • Experience with energy efficiency, electrification, weatherization, or building systems
  • Familiarity with project coordination or case management
  • Spanish or other language fluency

Location & Schedule

Mid-Hudson Energy Transition is based in Kingston, NY. Our standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You’ll be expected to be on-site or in Kingston several days a week. Remote work is available the rest of the time during business hours.

The salary for this position is $60,000. Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance, retirement plan with a 4% employer match, professional development opportunities, and unlimited paid time off.
