Do you have a sharp eye for detail and a passion for helping people achieve homeownership? Kohler Credit Union is seeking an Underwriter I to support our growing mortgage lending team. In this full-time , onsite position at our Corporate Center in Sheboygan, WI , you'll play a key role in evaluating mortgage loan applications, identifying risk, and ensuring each decision aligns with regulatory and internal lending standards. Join a collaborative, member-first organization where your work truly makes a difference. This role offers a competitive salary range of $55,000-$65,000.

What You'll Do:

• Make a Meaningful Impact: Play a vital role in helping members achieve their financial goals by carefully evaluating loan applications and recommending the best solutions.
• Engage in Thoughtful Decision-Making: Use your analytical skills to assess credit, income, and collateral while ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry standards.
• Collaborate with a Supportive Team: Work closely with loan officers, processors, and originators in a team-oriented environment that values clear communication and shared success.
• Protect and Strengthen the Credit Union: Help safeguard against risk and fraud by identifying high-risk loans and exceptions, contributing to the credit union's financial health.
• Stay Ahead of the Curve: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lending products, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory changes to ensure top-tier service and compliance.

What You Need to Succeed:

• Education : Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field preferred-or equivalent experience in mortgage lending or financial services.
• Experience : 0-2 years in mortgage underwriting, loan processing, or similar roles.
• Technical Skills :
  • Strong understanding of credit reports, income documents, and mortgage calculations.
  • Comfortable with underwriting systems and mortgage software tools.
• Soft Skills :
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple files in a fast-paced environment.
