About the Role:

The seniorconstruction project managerwill play akeyrolein developingvertiportinfrastructure as a product that scales globally. You will rethink howvertiport terminals andelectrifiedskydecksare designed and built,with a focus on design for constructabilitythat allows for rapid on-site assembly without high skilled labor or heavy lifting equipment. You will work with our structural,mechanical,electrical and fire protection engineers to develop integrated systems to streamline deck electrification foraircraftcharging, lighting, data,snow melt, andfire protection systemsfor elevated, floating and surface landing decks. You will drive innovation through prototype design, build and testing iteration to continually work towards optimized vertiport launch solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and own the full lifecycle of multidisciplinary construction projects.
  • Provide guidance to design engineers on how to design for optimized construction.
  • Provide preliminary rough order of magnitude (ROM) pricing estimates for projects during early design phases to help inform the most cost-effective solutions.
  • Develop a pricing database with unit metrics to track unit costs across construction projects to benchmark the value of past and future bids.
  • Engage with Product, FlightOperations and GroundSupportEquipment teams to understand priorities and challenge requirements in a positive, collaborative way.
  • Prepare bid documents, request and normalize bids, award projects based on the most qualified and cost-effective contractors, and proactively manage contractors to keep projects on schedule and mitigate change orders.
  • Manage night shift/early morning contractors as project work requires.
  • Manage and develop tools, documentation, and filing systems for tracking construction projects.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, aerospace or relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design, manufacturing and/or construction.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively.
  • Fundamental understanding of construction sequencing, safety, risk management, and quality control.
  • Experience with project management of construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule and contractor management.
  • Ability to think creatively to collaborate across disciplines and departments in solving novel problems where few existing precedents, standards or methodologies exist.
  • Experience managing projects with heavy rigging and steel erection, with knowledge about cranes, booms, jibs and assisted rigging options to find creative solutions to building on challenging sites and drive innovation.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-pacedenvironment managing multiple projects, with the ability to pivot to meet the dynamic needs of the company.
  • Creativity to imagine and design cost, reliability, efficiency, and maintainability from scratch.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Hands‑on experience managing technicians, welders, and machine shops.
  • Collaborative team player, eager to find the best solution while balancing cost and schedule.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outcome driven and self‑motivated with a positive attitude.
  • Passion for aviation and advanced air mobility.

Desired

  • Master’s degree in mechanical, structural, aerospace, or relevant engineering fields.
  • Experience building and activating kinetic structures.
  • Experience in aviation.
  • Professional license or certification within the field.

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $124,000 - $214,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Joby also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with a company match, an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), short‑term and long‑term disability coverage, life insurance, and more.
