The Facilities & Maintenance Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning workplace environment . This position performs routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and facility support tasks throughout the company. Duties include cleaning restrooms, lunchrooms, and common areas; maintaining building systems and equipment; assisting with repairs; and supporting facility upkeep as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

This position requires reliable, on-time attendance and a consistent work ethic to ensure that the company’s facilities remain in optimal condition. Work hours preferred 7:00 am - 3:30 pm but will review.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Custodial Duties

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, counters, and floors.
  • Clean and sanitize lunchrooms, including tables, chairs, sinks, counters, and appliances.
  • Dust, wipe, and disinfect surfaces throughout the facility (offices, hallways, conference rooms, and shared spaces).
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors as needed.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
  • Stock and replenish restroom and lunchroom supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, etc.).
  • Maintain the facilities room in a clean, orderly, and stocked condition.
  • Clean and maintain outdoor sitting and common areas.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling and storing cleaning chemicals safely.

Maintenance Duties

  • Perform basic facility repairs such as replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and filters.
  • Conduct minor plumbing repairs (e.g., unclogging drains, tightening fixtures).
  • Assist in preventive maintenance of equipment and building systems.
  • Inspect facilities regularly and report safety hazards, damages, or repair needs to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Set up and break down furniture or equipment for company events or meetings.
  • Assist with outdoor maintenance, including sweeping entryways, cleaning walkways, and light landscaping tasks.
  • Support the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in special projects and maintenance activities as assigned.
  • General Expectations
  • Maintain punctual and consistent attendance and report to work as scheduled.
  • Follow all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to assist across departments when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

Tools and Equipment Used

  • Basic hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, hammers, pliers)
  • Power tools (e.g., drills, impact drivers)
  • Ladders and step stools
  • Cleaning and maintenance carts
  • Light maintenance equipment (e.g., shop vac, pressure washer)
  • Safety and personal protective equipment (PPE)

Qualifications

  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or general maintenance experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks with attention to detail and quality.
  • Basic understanding of maintenance tools, cleaning products, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the shift.
  • Dependable and punctual, with a strong commitment to attendance and task completion.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs and work at moderate heights when necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 30 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate cleaning and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Must be able to work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, and noise.

Work Environment

Work performed both indoors and outdoors throughout various areas of the facility.

Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals (with proper protective equipment provided).

Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting required.

Occasional exposure to noise, temperature changes, and outdoor weather conditions.
